FAQ
What are the difference between slate switch plates and regular switch plates?
Well, ours look nicer for one thing! Most switch covers have a recessed back to them, where as our
slate switch covers are 'flat backed.' Depending on how the box and actual switches were installed,
this may not make any difference.
Will I need special hardware to mount the switch plates?
Slate switch plates mount just like any other switch plate in your house.
The only exception, in some cases, is if the slate cover is thicker than the one being replaced.
If this is true, you should be able to find replacement screws (6x32) in the hardware department
of any retail store.
Where can I use slate switch covers in my house?
Our standard switch covers are for single and double light switches, but can make them for sliders,
dimming switches, or any number or combination of switches in your home. Slate switch covers
should not be used in any outdoor areas or with any GFI electrical outlets.
What will my slate product look like?
The one guarantee that we can make is that it will not look like anyone else’s! The pictures throughout
the website give you an idea of the colors and variations of the slate tiles. Most pieces are a medium
gray tone with natural variations throughout. Some pieces have a bit of a rust color to them, some
are darker. We can take specific pictures before shipping an order to let you pick your favorite pieces.
Another option would be to visit an upcoming event that we will be set up at and see the products
for yourself.
Isn't slate really brittle, how do you keep it from breaking?
The slate tiles that we work with are not nearly as brittle as people think they are. The pieces are more
likely to have small pieces chip or flake away, rather than shatter the whole piece like a ceramic tile would
do. Also, the pieces are thick enough that they are durable and can be shipped fairly easily.
Are your products really expensive to ship?
Well, slate is a type of metamorphic rock. Like many other rocks, it is somewhat heavy, which could lead
to higher shipping costs. We do what we can to find the best rates and keep your shipping charges to a
minimum. You can always check to see if we will be at any events in your area.
When will my order by shipped?
Because of the custom nature of many of our products, we do not keep a large stock of items.
Once an order comes in, we will have it shipped out the door within a week. For more standard
items like coasters, 4x6 frames, etc. we may be able to have them shipped even faster than that.
How do I order custom-made items?
The first step would be to email us and tell us what you would like. We will reply with any further questions
and a price for what the custom job will cost. Once everyone is in agreement about the details of the project
and the cost, we will begin working on the product. When everything is complete, we will have you deposit
(charge a credit card) the previously agreed upon amount and we will then ship your product out.
